Student Work

My pieces consist of everyday objects reflecting the emotions attached to the moment in the scene. Using oil paint, I create movement and texture with brushstrokes to convey vivid themes of various sentiments. Commonplace objects and the mundane are often overlooked, but they are essential to our lives. An emotional attachment to an object may be related to a certain memory, with a positive or negative emotion attached. I aim to capture those feelings and present them in a way that makes the viewer reconsider the objects they use everyday, and view them in a new light.

Commissioned Work

I do commissions! Pictured is a clipboard I painted for a friend at the University of Southern Mississippi. Involvement and communication between a client and me is essential to create the perfect piece!

Recent Work

My latest project included two painted footballs that were displayed among other artists’ work at The Block, which is an interactive hospitality space located in the center of New Orleans. The event was hosted by the sports agency titled Athletes First for Super Bowl LIX. Pictured are my footballs, “After the Parade Ends” and “Tickled Pink”.

My name is Mia Simmons. I am 20 years old, and I am from Slidell, Louisiana. I am a student at Louisiana State University majoring in Studio Arts in Painting and Drawing. I grew up involved in the arts, but I only started seriously pursuing art in my second year of college. I am still figuring out my niche, but in the meantime, I am enjoying learning as much as possible!
